The build-up to next February’s men’s EuroHockey Indoor Championships was formally launched in Leuven earlier this month with tickets also going on sale.
The tournament will take place from February 1 to 4 at the Sportoase with the city of Leuven, KHC Leuven and the Royal Belgian Hockey Association linking together to run the showpiece event.
The Indoor Red Lions are placed in Pool B which they share with the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine and Portugal.
Pool A features world number one side and reigning champions Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Croatia.
It is the latest in a number of sparkling sporting events to take place in the city with Leuven mayor Mohamed Ridouani saying: “For our university city, we were elected European sports city in 2021. We have just hosted the Breaking World Cup and are preparing to organise the gravel cycling world championships; this biannual event is part of our ‘Leuven Urban Sports-project’ financed by Europe.”
As part of February’s event promotion, as many as 3,500 schoolchildren will have the opportunity to discover indoor hockey and play inter-school tournaments every Wednesday afternoon. The finals of that series are scheduled at Sportoase, at the opening of the Euro.
