Lisnagarvey lead way in men’s Euro Trophy in Lousada

Lisnagarvey are the one side with a 100% record left in the men’s EuroHockey Club Trophy I in Lousada following a second day of high drama in Portugal.

In Pool A, Cardiff & Met and SK Slavia Prague will face a direct showdown on Sunday morning for a place in Monday’s final as they both sit on seven points after two games.

For Slavia, for a second successive day, Kryštof Bodnár scored in the closing minutes. He got a winner on day one; this time it was enough for a 1-1 draw against SV Arminen, cancelling out Patrick Schmidt’s first half goal.

The result leaves the Austrian side on four points and hoping they can win against HC Olten tomorrow by a big scoreline and then hope Cardiff and Slavia draw if they are to have a chance of reaching the final.

Cardiff, meanwhile, strengthened their hand with a 6-1 win over Olten, Scott Rawlings scoring a hat trick while captain Jack Pritchard would later add a couple of goals.

In Pool B, Grange bounced back from their opening day defeat with a strong 3-1 win against Ukraine’s OKS-SHVSM Vinnitsa. Robert Croll and Aidan McQuade both scored in the first 20 minutes before Dmytro Hrubyi pulled one back.

David Nairn gave them extra insurance to their lead with 20 minutes to go.

After a weather delay, Lisnagarvey made it two wins out of two when they beat hosts AD Lousada 6-2, putting them in pole position to reach Monday’s final.

The Portuguese side did go in front from a penalty stroke in the first quarter from José Santos but the Irish side turned the game around with second quarter goals from Johnny Lynch, Ben Nelson and Peter McKibbin for a 3-2 lead.

And they pulled away in the second half with Andy Williamson, Matthew Nelson and Oliver Kidd stretching out the scoreline.
