Hosts Poland became the first side to formally stamp their ticket to the semi-final of the men’s EuroHockey 5s Championship with strong wins over Cyprus and Türkiye in Walcz.
It means they are the last side left with a perfect record in the competition but it will be put to the test on Saturday morning by unbeaten Italy in their first 5s tournament. The Italians are on seven points, three clear of Türkiye, and will know what they need from their game against the Poles to advance. The Turks need a big win over Cyprus to have any chance of going through.
Pool B is wide open after a 7-7 day two draw between Ukraine and Switzerland. Lithuania ran up wins over Sweden (8-0) and Finland (13-4) to move into second place but they have completed their group fixtures with seven points.
The Swiss, however, will jump above Lithuania with a win over Sweden on Friday morning. Ukraine will advance barring a five-goal defeat to Finland.
