Red Panthers roar into women’s semi-finals

Charlotte Englebert shone in a sparkling Belgian win over Spain to propel them into the semi-finals of the women’s EuroHockey Championships.

The 5-0 success earned them second spot in the group with Spain set to play in Pool C. Stephanie Vanden Borre crashed home the first just three minutes into the contest and they never looked back.

It remained tight until the second half when Englebert stepped on. She affected the turnover that led to 2-0, passing it off to Emma Puvrez who returned the favour and the Red Panther stuck on the backhand.

A gorgeous Justine Rasir touch running away from goal made it 3-0 early in Q4 and the Belgians rubbed salt into the wounds in the last three minutes. Englebert stole in to pick up a half-controlled overhead and placed into an empty net; Vanden Borre slung in a corner flick.

“We really showed what we are capable of and we can’t wait to meet Germany in the semi-final,” Englebert said.

“We pushed from the start and knew it would a big point for the day. We still have a long way to go and we showed there is a lot to work on but we are working on it and these kind of games are building on it.”

Women’s Pool A: Belgium 5 (C Englebert 2, S Vanden Borre 2, J Rasir) Spain 0
