Men’s EuroHockey U21 Championship II-A (Plzen-Litice, Czechia) – day 3 round-up
Scotland won the precursor to Saturday’s men’s EuroHockey U21 Championship II-A final with a 4-2 win over Czechia, the same score by which Wales defeated Türkiye to end the group stages.
Going into both ties, each side knew which game they were destined for and so there was a sense of shadow-boxing about the day’s games.
For the Scots, they made it three wins from three. Jamie Green converted one of three corner opportunities to give Scotland an early 1-0 lead in the first few minutes but the advantage lasted only a minute as Štěpán Šmíd equalised for Czechia in the fourth minute.
The men in blue then regained their lead in the 20th minute when Green struck from another corner and Joshua Love extended Scotland’s advantage in the 25th minute, giving his side a two-goal cushion heading into the second half.
Angus Millar added another before Czechia capitalised from a corner which Matyáš Hána.
Scotland will face Czechia again in the EuroHockey U21 Men’s Championship II-B final on Saturday at 11.15 CEST.
In game two, Wales got their first win after a couple of tough games with late goals from Joshua Jones and Noah Rothwell winning the day against the Turks.
They led 2-0 via Harry Davies and James Niven in the first 20 minutes before Mehmet Aydin and Zeynel Öz responded for half-time to leave it locked at 2-2 at half-time.
These two sides will also meet again on Saturday at 10.00 to determine who takes third place overall.
