Scotland and Czechia got their men’s EuroHockey Championship II-B campaign up and running with their respective wins in Plzen-Litice.

For Scotland, it took just three minutes for Jamie Green to strike. Wales responded with a series of penalty corners and eventually found an equaliser through James Niven.

But parity was only brief as Sam Hunt scored a corner a minute later for a 2-1 lead at the end of Q1.

Scotland took control in the second quarter with Tommy Austin extending the lead in the 26th minute and, just a minute later, Oliver Wilson added a fourth.

Wilson’s second and one from Joshua Love put them further in the distance before Green closed out the 7-1 win.

A late Czech flurry, meanwhile, saw them start their week with a 3-1 win over Türkiye, scoring twice in the fourth quarter to grab the points.

Senior star František Toms opened the scoring the third quarter but Abdulsamet Keleş equalised two minutes later to keep the game balanced at 1-1 going into the final phase.

There, captain Matyáš Hána won the lead back for the Czechs and the win was confirmed when Marek Mušinský made it 3-1 with 11 minutes to go.

Wednesday’s schedule sees Türkiye take on Scotland (16.00 CEST) while Wales are up against Czechia (18.15) in the jostle for the two final berths on offer from this four-team tournament.
