Men’s EuroHockey Indoor Club Challenge I (Sofia, Bulgaria)
Širvintos and KPH Rača joined HC Bra and Inverleith in the promotion pool following their vital wins on Saturday morning in Sofia.
In Pool B, Širvintos opened the morning by grabbing their place in the top four group when they came from a goal down to defeat Soroksári 2-1. The Hungarians had taken the lead in the 11th minute through Adam Losonci but they ran into card trouble and were back on terms at half-time to t a Žygimantas Balsiukas goal and then fell behind in Q4 when Lukas Janukaitis was on the mark.
Inverleith confirmed top spot in the group when they beat HK Triglav Predanovci 17-1 with Keir Robb scoring six times and they advance with five points to their name.
HC Bra eased to their third win when they defeated Cardiff & Met 13-2, Andrii Koshelenko scoring five times in the first half to put them in a strong position for the promotion pool with five points under their belt. It was their third successive double-figures goal tally.
KPH Rača took advantage of Cardiff’s loss to defeat FHC Slavia 1921 6-3 and move into second in the group, advancing to the promotion pool. Juraj Bogár got a trio of goals as they built a 5-1 lead to make their semi-final spot safe prior to a late fightback from the Bulgarian hosts.
