Terrassa ready for future stars to shine at Under-21 championships

Today marks one month to go to the EuroHockey Under 21 Championships with Atlètic Terrassa’s venue welcoming 16 elite teams from July 14th to 20th, 2024.

It is a competition graced every time by some of the brightest rising stars in the sport. The likes of Mats Grambusch, Maria Verschoor, Victor Charlet, Lola Riera and Alex Hendrickx in 2012; Thierry Brinkman, Selin Oruz and Hannah Martin in 2014; Sonja Zimmerman, Ambre Ballenghien and Yibbi Jansen in 2017; Felice Albers, Charlotte Englebert and Zach Wallace in 2019 all introducing themselves to the world on this stage.

Already, the leading lights from 2022 in Ghent are making their mark at the very highest level, players like Hélène Brasseur, Rafael Vilallonga, Duco Telgenkamp and Lisa Nolte, all becoming key players for their nation’s senior teams.

And now EuroHockey is looking forward to finding out who the next future heroes will be once the games hit the turf in July.

The men’s competition will see hosts Spain looking to win their first medal since their shared bronze in Valencia in 2017. They are in Pool B with 10-time champions the Netherlands, 2019 finalists England and newly promoted Ireland.
The other half of the draw features Belgium, France, Germany and – for the first time at this level – Türkiye

On the women’s side, Germany are the reigning champions having defeated Belgium in a shoot-out in Ghent in 2022. Their Pool B group sees them face Austria, England and Ireland in the initial group phase. In Pool A, Spain – champions in 2019 – will compete with Belgium, France and the Netherlands.

Each side will be aiming to land a top two spot in the group stage to advance to the semi-finals and keep alive their chances of a medal on this stage.

The action will all take place across the two pitches at Atlètic Terrassa’s famous venue with EuroHockeyTV broadcasting 24 of the games played on Pitch 1. This broadcast is available for all EuroHockeyTV pass holders while those new to the site can purchase a tournament pass for €7.99.

Keep an eye on EuroHockey’s website and social platform to enjoy the build-up to one of this summer‘s most hotly anticipated events.
