Twenty-seven young umpires in total have been selected to take part in the Umpires for Nations (U4N) and Umpires for Europe (U4E) programmes in 2024.
U4E is aimed at umpires with potential to become international umpires who are in the early stages of their development.
Participants will be mentored by EuroHockey trained mentors and the programme is a blend of online and face-to-face workshops, plus the opportunity to umpire elite level U18 matches.
U4N, meanwhile, supports and upskills umpires with the potential to move into their national leagues.
Participants will be mentored by EuroHockey Institute trained mentors and the programme is a blend of online and face-to-face workshops, plus the opportunity to umpire elite level U16 matches.
The programmes include mentoring, technical modules, observational learning and practical appointments across two seminar weekends, set for March 29 to 31 and then in August, 2024.
“It is again very encouraging for EuroHockey to see there are so many umpires in Europe who are looking to learn, improve and further their umpiring careers,” said chair of the EuroHockey Officials Committee Magda Nazaret.
“We are delighted to see such a high quality of applications from National Associations. Over 30 national associations have been represented through the umpire education programme over the past decade.
“Following the selection process by the EuroHockey Umpire Education Group, we are delighted to announce the participants who have been chosen to take part in the U4E and U4N programmes in 2024. We hope all umpires have a great experience on the programmes!”
