Catalan Federation and EuroHockey champion All In & Win project’s focus on diversity and inclusivity

As we celebrate the FIH’s Diversity and Inclusion Day, EuroHockey joins the global hockey community to reinforce its commitment to some of the most important values in sport, and society.

The Federació Catalana de Hockey hosted the closing ceremony of their section of the EU ERASMUS+ All In & Win project last week at the UFEC in Barcelona.

The event celebrated an initiative that seeks to contribute to the acceptance of LGBTI+ people in sport.

EuroHockey President Marcos Hofmann and Catalan federation president Xavier Adell were among the guests at the event to see how the project and its final actions have developed before reflection took place with a round table.

They also acknowledged the key role and commitment shown by Club Egara, Junior FC and Sitges Hockey Club in developing the pilot program.

It has been ongoing for the past 18 months with presentations from Jordi Escriba and Judith Solanas showcasing “what is the Erasmus+ project” and the “insights and situation of LGBTI+ in sports, today” respectively.

The headlines, content, structure and objectives of the project, along with the final results and a summary of the All in & Win Final Evaluation Report findings were also presented.

A pilot programme has also been in operation at the three clubs who had the chance to share their experiences, pros, cons and learnings with the rest of the Catalan clubs present.

Speaking at the event, Hofmann said: “For EuroHockey, this is making a huge step forwards in supporting athletes’, umpires, officials and volunteers welfare.

“I stand before you today to champion a cause that transcends the boundaries of our beloved sport, a cause that resonates with the very essence of humanity – inclusion.

“Sport, as we all know, has the power to unite, to inspire, and to transform lives. It’s a platform where differences are celebrated, and where dreams take flight.

“Yet, for too long, the hockey community, like many others, has grappled with the shadow of discrimination and exclusion.

“Today, we take a bold step towards a brighter future by embracing the All In & Win campaign. This initiative, representing ‘the ALLiance for improving LGBT+ INclusion in sports to WIN together’, embodies our unwavering commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

“EuroHockey has always prided itself on fostering a sense of belonging, where every athlete, umpire, official, and volunteer feels valued and respected.

“By joining forces with All In & Win, we are taking this commitment to a new level. We are creating a space where everyone can thrive, where talent is nurtured, and where dreams are realised.

“This is not just about making a statement; it’s about taking action. It’s about empowering individuals, fostering understanding, and building a stronger, more inclusive hockey community.

“By embracing diversity, we enrich our sport, elevate our competitions, and inspire future generations.

“Let us be the pioneers of change, the champions of inclusion. Let us demonstrate to the world that hockey is a sport for all, where everyone has a place, and where everyone can win.”
