Double Dutch delight in the FIH Pro League

The Netherlands claimed both the men’s and women’s FIH Pro League titles this week as their earlier results were enough to put them out of reach of their rivals.

For the women, the Netherlands had the title wrapped up on June 18th for the third successive season, three days after their previous game as results elsewhere went in their favour.

Argentina currently sit in second and have claimed the World Cup spot on offer regardless of whether Belgium jump above them from their last two remaining matches.

At the bottom of the table, meanwhile, both Germany and England got important wins over the weekend to move ahead of India who now occupy the relegation spot.

On the men’s side, the title was confirmed on Sunday as England’s 2-1 win over Australia meant the Kookaburras were no longer able to catch the Dutch.

Their series came to an end on Thursday with a shoot-out win over the English as Lee Valley, leaving them on 35 points from their 16 games. Indeed, it was their seventh shoot-out success of the competition, a crucial factor as Australia will end the league with more wins but shy on bonus points.

Below them, the race for the remaining World Cup ticket on offer from this competition remains live with Spain, Argentina, Germany and England still in contention.

Their series will be played to completion over the next few days.
