Four sides land their tickets to men’s EHL FINAL8

The ABN AMRO EHL KO16 Men’s tournament in Surbiton Hockey Club produced all the drama four out of 16 teams continued their bid to win the world’s best club hockey competition this season.

Over the course of four days and 16 matches – featuring over 40 Olympians and 100 international players – there was drama galore in the knock-out format.

On Friday, Royal Léopold and Bloemendaal produced the goods to race into next Easter’s FINAL8 as they produced strong wins over Lille and Mannheimer HC to stamp their tickets. Both won in impressive style to complete their second wins in two days.

Saturday saw eight other teams vye for the FINAL8 spots from which Surbiton and Rotterdam emerged victorioius.

They won a pair of thrilling battles, defeating Wimbledon and Hamburger Polo Club, respectively. For Surbiton, they won a 3-2 battle against their near neighbours while Rotterdam recovered from a 3-1 deficit in normal time and then again in a shoot-out.

They join fellow qualifiers Bloemendaal and Royal Léopold as well as the pre-qualified Gantoise, SV Kampong, Old Georgians and Club de Campo de Madrid.
