EuroHockey’s Head of Strategy and Development Tom Pedersen-Smith was in Georgia this week as part of EuroHockey’s latest Organisational Health engagement.
Alongside EuroHockey consultant Phil Taylor, they met Georgian Deputy Minister of Sport Irakli Dolaberidze to discuss the development of the sport in the country.
He spoke about Georgia’s strategy to build infrastructure and provide education for young people and coaches while the meeting also touched on the construction of a FIH-supported pitch in the country.
The meeting was attended by Zurab Bakradze, Head of the Sports Department of the Georgian Ministry of Sports, Vice President of the Hockey Federation Tornike Tevdoradze and other representatives of the Ministry of Sports.
“The main purpose of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for Georgia to fly their flag and create an opportunity for more participation in hockey,” said Pedersen-Smith.
“We want to work with the ministry to understand how they want to grow the game, build infrastructure in this country, which is really important, and also build the education of young people to get more people participating in the sport.”
