Head of Coaching – Loreto Hockey Club, Dublin Ireland

At Loreto, we recognise that high-quality coaching is central to everything we do. We are seeking a Head of Coaching to improve the quality and consistency of coaching across both Senior and Junior sections, ensuring every player and team can reach their full potential through strong coaching support and development.
Loreto Hockey Club has c.100 Senior players across 6 teams, c.270 players aged 12–18 across 18 teams, and a further 250 junior players aged 6–11. The club also has 2 Vets teams and an ID Hockey team. The Junior section is supported by a strong coordination structure covering fixtures, facilities, equipment, logistics, and age-group management.


WHAT WE AIM TO ACHIEVE
We aim to strengthen coaching as a key differentiator in Loreto by:
• Building a clear coaching pathway to attract, develop, and retain coaches
• Creating a culture of continuous growth and development for all coaches
• Ensuring structured support through mentoring, education, and performance feedback


ROLE PURPOSE
The purpose of this role is to develop, mentor, and coordinate all coaches within Loreto Hockey Club, with the objective of improving coaching quality, consistency, and alignment across all teams and age groups.


HEAD OF COACHING ROLE
The Head of Coaching will work within the existing club structure to develop, support, mentor, and manage coaches, ensuring appropriate coaching standards across all teams.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Coaching Plan & Strategy
• Develop a Coaching Register identifying current coaching numbers, qualifications, experience, and gaps
• Create and deliver a 3-year coaching development plan for approval
• Provide an annual report on progress and future recommendations
Coach Coordination
• Work with the President and Junior Lead Coordinator to ensure all teams have appropriate coaching provision
• Support recruitment and engagement of suitable coaching candidates
Performance & Feedback
• Provide structured feedback to all coaches at least twice per season
Coach Development
• Identify training needs and coordinate coach education and development opportunities
• Deliver internal workshops and shadowing opportunities
Mentoring & Support
• Provide ongoing mentoring and advisory support to coaches
• Support coaches in resolving challenges and improving practice


QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
• Minimum FIH Level 2 Hockey Coaching qualification
• Experience in coach development and mentoring
• Strong communication and feedback skills
• Ability to build strong, trusting relationships
• Collaborative team player with leadership capability
• Passion for coaching and developing players and coaches
