Men’s EuroHockey Championship III (Kirklareli, Türkiye) – day three round-up
Lithuania landed the last remaining semi-final spot on offer in Kirklareli with a 2-0 win over Finland, setting up a date with Ukraine. Türkiye will, meanwhile, face Bulgaria in the other final four fixture on Friday following a lively third day of action.
Pool A
Malta 5 Hungary 2
Two goals from Tom Degiovanni and Christ Agius earned Malta a 5-2 win over Hungary which assures them of third place in Pool A and three points for the ranking pool. The former opened the scoring inside the first minute from a corner and they were 3-0 up at half-time.
It was five going into the last 10 minutes when Hungary rallied with Martin Csögör and Benedek Kozári pulled a couple back.
Ukraine 15 Bulgaria 0
Ukraine eased to a third successive victory to top the group with Bulgaria also advancing to the semi-finals in second place despite the heavy defeat. Andrii Koshelenko started the scoring with the first of his five goals with Oleksandr Solomianyi chipping in with a hat trick as well.
Pool B
Lithuania 2 Finland 0
Two corner goals from Povilas Sinkevičius powered Lithuania into the semi-finals of the EuroHockey Championship III in Kirklareli, picking up their second successive win. With neat symmetry, he scored in the seventh minute and the seventh last minute to bring his tournament total to five goals. Finland end the group phase on one point which they will take through to Pool C.
Türkiye 5 Luxembourg 0
Türkiye made it three wins from three as they raced away in the second half from Luxembourg, taking top spot and a semi-final date with Bulgaria.
Captain Ali Akin Özkiliç was to the fore once again, getting the first two goals either side of half-time before Müslüm Ekinci, Müslüm Elagöz and Zeynel Öz chipped in.
