Luxembourg create history on women’s Challenge II opening day in Poland

Big wins were the order of the day in Poland as Metpack Alanya Stars, Europa FC, HC Luxembourg and hosts KS Start Brzeziny all won well on the first day of EuroHockey Club Challenge II in Skierniewice.

Game 1 Metpack Alanya Stars Hokey v SLF Mesaicos 7-2

Metpack Alanya Stars dominated the opening game of the Challenge II against SLF Mesaicos with a decisive 7-2 victory. Alanya unleashed a scoring barrage in the second period with four goals, and added three more in the fourth, demonstrating their offensive prowess.

Alanya’s goals included penalty corners from Fatma Nişancı, Emine Bahçivan, and Kübra Güzelal, and a penalty stroke by Ayla Esen. Mesaicos managed to find the net twice in the second half via Elijn Kroese and Elisabeth Roose but couldn’t match Alanya’s intensity.

Game 2 Europa FC Hockey Club v HK Zrinjevac 5-0

In a commanding display, Gibraltar’s Europa defeated HK Zrinjevac from Croatia 5-0 with Reighann Mascarenhas-Olivero scoring a hat trick.

The game unfolded with consistent pressure from Europa FC, starting with Mascarenhas-Olivero’s field goal in the fifth minute. The team built on this early lead with goals from Garcia Dana and two more from Mascarenhas-Olivero, concluding with Hammond Kamyl’s field goal eight minutes from the end.

Game 3 HC Luxembourg v Porvoo HC 4-1

HC Luxembourg created history with their first ever EuroHockey Club victory as they won 4-1 against Porvoo from Finland.

HC Luxembourg opened aggressively, netting two goals in the first quarter through a penalty corner by Heather Yanusas and a field goal by Aine Healy. They extended their lead with another penalty corner by Diane Krüger. Porvoo HC managed to pull one back through a penalty corner by Elli Rihtilä, but Healy sealed the win with her second goal of the match near the end.

Game 4 Grupo Desportivo do Viso v KS Hokej Start Brzeziny 0-6

KS Hokej Start Brzeziny secured a commanding 6-0 victory over Grupo Desportivo do Viso in their Pool B encounter. The first quarter ended scoreless, but Brzeziny broke through in the second with goals from Paula Sławińska and Oliwia Krychniak, leading 2-0 at halftime.

Brzeziny continued their control in the third quarter, with Natalia Kucharska and Monika Polewczak each finding the net to extend the lead to 4-0. Justyna Ferdzyn’s penalty corner and Natalia Kucharska’s second goal in the final quarter sealed the comprehensive win.

Next, Brzeziny faces HC Luxembourg, while Viso looks to rebound against Porvoo HC.
