Nizip Zeugma produce outragreous comeback to win men’s EuroHockey Club Trophy II

Nizip Zeugma produced an outrageous late comeback in the men’s EuroHockey Club Trophy II final in Zagreb to win gold, denying Italian side HC Bra in the most dramatic of fashion.

KS Pomorzanin Torun won third from a goalfest against Portugal’s Casa Pia while Denmark’s Slagelse and Ukraine’s Olimpia Vinnitsa won their ranking matches on the final day of the competition.

FINAL: Nizip Zeugma SK v HC Bra 3-3 (3-1 SO)

Nizip Zeugma SK snatched gold with an incredible late show as they somehow recovered from 3-1 down against HC Bra with four minutes to go to earn a shoot-out chance they took full advantage of.

HC Bra had raced into a big lead 3-1 lead in the first 19 minutes with Andrii Koshelenko scoring a hat trick, two corners and a stroke, to put the Italian side in control. It remained that way until just four minutes from the end when Ömer Karakus gave them a lifeline and a penalty corner by Furkan Ataş almost with the final play of the game earned the 3-3 draw.

They carried that momentum into the shoot-out where Karakus, Ataş and Cihan Korkmaz all scored while Ibrahim Köşker kept out a trio of Bra efforts to win the gold.

BRONZE MATCH: Casa Pia Atlético Club v KS Pomorzanin Torun 4-7

KS Pomorzanin Torun triumphed over Casa Pia Atlético Clube with a score of 7-4.

Casa Pia started strong, taking a 2-0 lead in the first quarter with a penalty corner goal by Vasco Ribeiro and a field goal by Louis Mielle. But Pomorzanin made their move in the third quarter with four goals, two goals from Wojciech Rutkowski and one each from Krystian Makowski and Mateusz Zieliński outdoing Ribeiro’s second to make it 4-3.

Makowski put some daylight between the teams and Dmytro Luppa scored another, extending their lead to 6-3 with eight minutes remaining. Casa Pia managed a final penalty corner goal from Ribeiro, but Pomorzanin sealed their victory with a late penalty corner by Rutkowski, making the final score 7-4.

This victory secured 3rd place for KS Pomorzanin Torun in the tournament.

5th/6th playoff: Slagelse HC v HAHK Mladost 6-0

In the 5th/6th place match today Slagelse HC dominated against hosts Mladost who were shy the services of key men Anže and Gregor Fujs and Vitalii Kalinchuk.

Slagelse took control early, with Magnus Thorsted scoring a penalty corner in the 6th minute, followed by another from Jonas Diesing in the 11th minute. Nikolaj Moll added a field goal in the 30th minute to make it 3-0 at half-time. Slagelse continued their dominance in the second half with goals from Thorsted, another penalty corner in the 44th minute, and field goals from Oliver Sørensen and Frederik Moll in the 46th and 54th minutes, respectively.

7th/8th playoff: HC SHVSM Olimpia Vinnitsa v Copenhagen HC 2-1

Olimpia Vinnitsa secured a 2-1 victory over Copenhagen HC with all the goals coming in the final quarter.

Olimpia broke the deadlock in the fourth quarter with a field goal by Demian Mazurkevych in the 48th minute. They quickly doubled their lead two minutes later with a goal from Dmytro Andreiev.

Copenhagen HC managed to pull one back with a penalty stroke by Daniel Portugal in the 56th minute but couldn’t find an equaliser.
