Semi-finalists confirmed at the EuroHockey 5s U16 Championships in Zagreb

In the girls’ competition, Ukraine, Austria, Switzerland, and Poland progressed to the semi-finals with wins over hosts Croatia, Wales, Türkiye, and Georgia respectively.

Ukraine made if four wins from four with an 8-4 success against Croatia in the opening quarter-final as Sofiia Basanets boosted her goal tally to 19 goals in four games. Austria were too strong for Wales as did Poland against Georgia.

Tie of the round was a 5-4 thriller for the Swiss against Türkiye with two goals in the last four minutes turning the result their way via Iona Poisson and Filippa Haberthür.

The semi-finals will take place between Ukraine and Austria at 1.20pm (CET) with Switzerland against Poland at 2.40pm (CET).

Austria will meet Poland (10.40am CET) while Ukraine face Switzerland on Friday afternoon (12pm CET) in the semi-finals of the boys EuroHockey 5s U16 championship in Zagreb following completion of the group stages and quarter-finals today.

Austria topped Pool A with a perfect record but they were pushed to the limit by Türkiye, going all the way to shoot-out which they won 1-0 thanks to Oskar Rathkolb’s goal.

Things were simpler for Poland who defeated Wales 8-4 while Switzerland beat Slovakia 10-2. Ukraine came back from a half-time deficit to beat Croatia 5-3 and go into the semis.
