Sweden’s SWE3 federation hosted its annual club conference recently with the theme entitled Focus on Women as they seek to attract and retain more female athletes, coaches and officials into the sport.
Föreningskonferens, as it is called, offers a valuable opportunity for SWE3’s board, sports management groups and clubs to come together.
The event was run with the help of a EuroHockey Solidarity Grant which made SWE3 be able to gather the management group for hockey to spend extra time together.
This allowed them not only to discuss and plan for the immediate months ahead but also to take a step back and adopt a more strategic perspective, to have the chance to sit down and collaboratively plan for the near future while laying the foundation for long-term development and progress.
For the Focus on Women session, Klara Moberg and Ella Sampers from the management group in hockey gave a presentation which highlighted, among other things, the FIH’s recently launched “Body Confident Sport Programme.”
It also included a review of the current state of SWE3’s three sports – including American football and flag football in addition to hockey – regarding girls and women as athletes, coaches and umpires.
The review asked: What does the situation look like at the moment? What do the numbers tell us? And what do we need to do to improve?
These presentations were followed by discussion in groups where board members, management groups, and clubs all participated.
“An incredibly valuable and educational day that we are confident will lead to the necessary development for increasing the participation of girls and women in Swedish Hockey, American football, and Flag football,” Moberg said of the event.
