Wales, Czechia and Ukraine join II-A and II-B final parties

The women’s U21 Championship II finals will see Wales face Czechia in Rakovnik while Scotland meet Ukraine following completion of the round-robin phase in the second tier competitions.

II-A Rakovnik

Wales put in a storming second half performance to defeat Lithuania 5-0 and emerge as table-toppers, putting them into the final in Rakovnik and potentially one win from promotion.

The first half ended scoreless but the Welsh cut loose after the big break. Amy Cradden and Jemima Robinson scored within a minute of each other to make it 2-0 in the third quarter.

Robinson went on to score a hat trick with Cradden’s 51st minute effort combining to make it five.

Hosts Czechia will join the Welsh side in the final after they picked up the 2-1 win they needed to make it through. They got their noses in front through Linda Nova in the 18th minute and added extra insurance through Linda Nedvědova with 13 minutes to go.

Chiara di Bella’s 59th minute was too little, too late for the Italians who needed a draw to advance. They must now settle for the third place playoff game on Saturday.

II-B Konya

Ukraine got the point they needed from an incredibly tight 0-0 battle with Poland to advance to the final of the women’s EuroHockey U21 Championship II-B, putting them within one win of promotion and a place at the Junior World Cup.

They had the slight edge on the corner count 4-2 in a game of very tight margins but the draw was enough for Ukraine to go through on goal difference.

Scotland completed their group stage with a confident 4-0 win over Türkiye to set them up nicely for the final.

They went ahead in the third quarter, an Ava Wadsworth rebound finish from penalty corner into the bottom left corner.

And the goals flowed in the final quarter. A strong team move was finished off by Ava Smith from a narrow angle to make it 2-0. Mhairi Low converted from a neat cutback to the penalty spot with a sliding low effort and Keira Foster rounded out the scoring, pouncing on a loose ball for the fourth.
