Eagles and Qormi keep alive chances of third successive Euro gold medals in Challenge II Men

The gold medal and promotion battles are set with Qormi Daikin set to face Soroksári – Olcote while hosts Eagles take on HC Luxembourg on Sunday following the conclusion of the group stages in Gibraltar.

Game 9: Qormi Daikin HC v Roslagens IF 10-0

In the opening game of the day, Qormi Daikin HC delivered a stunning performance against Roslagens IF, securing a 10-0 victory. Qormi set the tone early, with Keith Bajada scoring in the first minute. Luke Bajada and Julian Zahra added goals in the first quarter, ending it 3-0.

Ayrton Falzon scored twice and Keith Calleja added two more goals, making it 7-0 in the 3rd quarter. In the final quarter, Steve Tanti, Axel Cauchi, and Falzon again found the net, completing the rout.

Qormi Daikin HC finished top of Pool B with 12 points and will face the runners-up of Pool A tomorrow in a gold medal game.

Game 10: HC Luxembourg v Šiauliai Ginstrektė-Akademija 3-1

The second game was more tightly contested but HC Luxembourg rallied to defeat Šiauliai Ginstrektė-Akademija 3-1. The victory sent Luxembourg into second spot and into Sunday’s gold medal matches.

Šiauliai opened the scoring with a penalty corner by Povilas Sinkevičius in the 10th minute, setting an early pace. However, HC Luxembourg responded robustly with Milan Dans leveling through a field goal in the 19th minute. Dans continued his excellent form, securing a lead with a penalty corner in the 34th minute. Laurent Neve sealed the win with a penalty stroke in the final minute.

This result means that Luxembourg finish runners-up in Pool B, just behind Qormi, and will now face the winners of Pool A, Eagles.

Game 11: Floriana Young Stars HC v Soroksári – Olcote HC 0-3

In their Pool A matchup Soroksári – Olcote HC clinched a convincing 3-0 victory over Floriana Young Stars HC.

The match saw Olcote fly out of the blocks with András Hortobágyi and Balázs Szuchy scoring two rapid field goals within the first ten minutes. The scoreline remained unchanged until the final quarter when Bence Szigeti secured the win with a penalty corner goal, consolidating their dominance.

This win awards Soroksári – Olcote HC a total of 11 points, putting them in temporary hold of top spot in the group.

Game 12: Eagles HC v Furuset Landhockeyklubb 5-0

Eagles HC secured a dominant 5-0 victory over Furuset Landhockeyklubb to emerge as the only side with a perfect record from the group phase and in with a chance of a third successive European title.

Eagles HC took control from the second quarter onward, getting on the board with a penalty stroke converted by Thomas Silva in the 27th minute. Kyle Davis added a field goal in the 31st minute, followed by a penalty corner goal by Dion Durante in the 33rd minute. Darren Cerisola and Leigh Dobinson further extended the lead with goals in the 53rd and 57th minutes, respectively.
