Cardiff & Met the men’s Trophy I champions for fourth time in 10 years

Cardiff & Met claimed the Rohrmax EuroHockey Club Trophy I Men title after overcoming Watsonians in Sunday’s final, making it four gold medals at this level since 2016

In the decider, a penalty corner converted by Scott Rawlings opened the scoring before captain Jack Pritchard added a second soon after, providing Cardiff & Met with a lead they would not relinquish.

Watsonians pressed for a route back into the contest and ran up six penalty corners but could not find a way through the Cardiff & Met defences, ensuring a 2–0 victory and the Trophy I crown.

2025 champions Lisnagarvey secured third place with victory over hosts SV Arminen in the 3rd/4th place match. They scored four times in the first 20 minutes en route to a 5-2 win with Ollie Kidd completing the victory over the hosts late on, his eighth goal of the tournament.

In the group stages, Cardiff and Lisnagarvey set their stall out early in Pool B with the Welsh side defeaing AD Lousada 5-2 and Garvey beating Ukraine’s OKS SHVSM Vinnitsa 11-0.

Watsonians celebrate a goal

It meant their Saturday showdown was the group’s key game and it was Cardiff who prevailed 3-2. A Rawlings double and a 38th minute strike from Matt Dicker putting them 3-0 clear before Kidd and Ben Nelson cut the gap for the Irish side but not enough to force a result.

Cardiff duly pinned down their final spot with an 11-1 win over Vinnitsa.

In Pool A, matters were far tighter with Watsonians – on debut – winning 3-1 against WKS Grunwald Poznan to start on the front foot and then they got the best of hosts SV Arminen 4-2.

Early goals from Tommy Orr and Guy Rowson set them on their way and Charlie Jack’s third quarter double ensured the full set of points.

It left them in pole position with a draw or better required against Czechia’s TJ Plzeň-LItice but the Scots found themselves 2-1 and 3-2 behind in Q3 before Daniel Coultas’s pair of corners changed the complexion of the game, resulting a 5-4 victory.

Arminen defeated Grunwald 4-2 to make it into the bronze medal match with two wins out of three.

It set up the final day of ranking matches where TJ Plzeň-Litice won 3-0 against OKS SHVSM Vinnitsa to finish in seventh place.

WKS Grunwald Poznan and AD Lousada contested a dramatic 5th/6th place playoff, with the Polish team winning the encounter via shoot‑out following a 4–4 draw at the end of regulation time.
